British Man Dies in Turkey Before Undergoing Hair Transplant

A British man has died in Istanbul shortly before he was due to undergo a hair transplant procedure, according to local reports. The 38-year-old had travelled to Turkey for a second round of treatment following what was described as a previously “successful” operation.

The man was being prepared for surgery at the Dr Cinik clinic, a well-known private medical facility in the Besiktas district of Istanbul. According to Turkish news outlet OdaTV, he became unwell prior to the procedure and was rushed to hospital, where he sadly died later that day.

In an official statement, the clinic confirmed: “The patient unexpectedly became unwell for reasons that are still unknown, during the pre-operative stage. The illness occurred before the hair transplant procedure had begun.” Staff at the clinic provided emergency medical assistance before transferring the man to hospital.

The Turkish Ministry of Health has since launched a formal inquiry into the death. The man’s body has reportedly been sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute, the government agency responsible for autopsies and cause-of-death investigations, for a post-mortem examination.

Medical tourism, particularly for aesthetic procedures such as hair transplants, has grown rapidly in recent years, with Turkey becoming a popular destination for thousands of British patients due to lower costs and specialised clinics. However, this incident raises renewed concerns over the safety standards and oversight of private medical providers abroad.

As the investigation continues, the British authorities are expected to work with their Turkish counterparts to clarify the circumstances surrounding the man’s death. His identity has not yet been made public.
