Knife-Wielding Man Arrested in Malmesbury Town Centre After Causing Public Disturbance

A man was arrested in Malmesbury this afternoon after allegedly threatening members of the public with a knife while partially undressed. The incident, which occurred around 1pm, sparked concern among residents and prompted a swift response from Wiltshire Police.

According to a police statement, the suspect was reportedly naked from the waist down and was seen walking along Dark Lane before moving through Bremilham Road and Bristol Street areas close to the town centre. During this time, he is believed to have assaulted and threatened individuals with a knife. The man was arrested by officers on Bristol Street shortly after the incident was reported. He was given immediate medical assistance at the scene and is currently in police custody.

Detective Superintendent (Det Supt) Angela Shipp acknowledged the concern that the event may have caused the local community. “We appreciate the significant amount of community concern that this incident has caused. Please be reassured that we are treating this matter incredibly seriously,” she said.

While no serious injuries have been reported, police are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or been approached by the suspect. Given the busy time of day and central location, authorities believe there may be additional witnesses or potential victims who have yet to come forward.

Wiltshire Police urged anyone with information to contact them directly, as the investigation continues. The motivation behind the man’s behaviour remains unclear at this stage.
