Prince Harry Cleared in Charity Misconduct Investigation

Prince Harry has been cleared of misconduct by the Charity Commission for England and Wales following an investigation into claims made by the chairwoman of Sentebale, a charity he co-founded in 2006.

The Commission’s report, released on 5 August, concluded there was no evidence of bullying, harassment, or any misuse of position by Harry during his time as a patron. The review followed public allegations from Sentebale chairwoman Dr Sophie Chandauka, who raised concerns over governance and internal conduct earlier this year.

Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, who founded Sentebale to support children affected by HIV/AIDS across southern Africa, both stepped down from their patron roles in March, shortly after the accusations surfaced.

“Unsurprisingly, the Commission makes no findings of wrongdoing about Sentebale’s co-founder and former patron, Prince Harry. They also found no evidence of widespread bullying, harassment or misogyny and misogynoir at the charity, as falsely claimed by the current Chair.”

The spokesperson went on to say that while the investigation exonerated Harry, it did not adequately address the broader implications:

“The report falls troublingly short in many regards, primarily the fact that the consequences of the current Chair’s actions will not be borne by her, but by the children who rely on Sentebale’s support.”

Prince Harry now plans to continue his charitable work through alternative channels, with a renewed focus on supporting young people in Lesotho and Botswana.

“With the original mission of Sentebale firmly in mind and in honour of the legacy he and Prince Seeiso began, the Duke of Sussex will now focus on finding new ways to continue supporting the children of Lesotho and Botswana,” the statement added.

“I appreciate the Charity Commission for its conclusions, which confirm the governance concerns I raised privately in February 2025. The experience was intense, and it became a test of our strategic clarity and operational resilience.”

Sentebale, named in honour of Princess Diana and Mamohato of Lesotho, provides vital healthcare and educational support for young people across southern Africa impacted by HIV/AIDS. The Commission’s report noted that internal tensions had been caused by vague role definitions and gaps in governance, which ultimately led to several trustee resignations.

The episode marks yet another challenge in Prince Harry’s strained relationship with British institutions. In May, the Duke of Sussex lost a legal battle in the High Court regarding his bid to receive taxpayer-funded police protection while visiting the UK. The ruling followed his departure from royal duties in 2021 and his relocation to the United States with his wife, Meghan Markle.
