Germany Bans Largest ‘Reich Citizen’ Group in Far-Right Crackdown

On May 13, 2025, German authorities took decisive action against the far-right Reichsbürger movement by banning its largest faction, Koenigreich Deutschland (Kingdom of Germany). This group, with around 6,000 members, has been accused of attempting to undermine the German state and promoting extremist ideologies, including antisemitic conspiracy theories. The group rejects modern democracy and claims allegiance to a long-extinct monarchy. The crackdown comes after years of surveillance, which intensified following a violent 2016 incident in which a member killed a police officer during a raid.
