Teenagers Sentenced for Fatal Attack on 80-Year-Old Dog Walker

Two teenagers have been sentenced for the manslaughter of 80-year-old Bhim Kohli, who was fatally attacked while walking his dog in Franklin Park, Braunstone Town, near Leicester, in September 2024. The 15-year-old boy received a seven-year detention sentence, while the 13-year-old girl was given a three-year rehabilitation order.

The attack, which occurred on September 1, involved the boy physically assaulting Kohli while shouting racial slurs, and the girl filming and encouraging the violence. Kohli sustained fatal injuries, including a broken neck and ribs, and died the following day in the hospital. The court described the assault as a “wicked” and “cowardly” act on an innocent elderly man.

Kohli’s daughter expressed grief and anger over the leniency of the sentences, stating the attackers can rebuild their lives while her family cannot. The case has highlighted concerns about youth violence and justice system responses to racially motivated crimes.

The incident has sparked discussions about the influence of social media on youth behavior and the need for greater accountability and intervention to prevent such tragedies in the future.
