Children’s Home Society of NC Appoints New Philanthropy Leader to Strengthen Mission

The Children’s Home Society of North Carolina (CHS) has named veteran fundraiser Kelly Johnson as its Chief Philanthropy Officer, a role critical to advancing the organization’s mission of supporting children and families.

Johnson brings over 20 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, including spearheading multimillion-dollar campaigns for educational and social service organizations.

In her new role, Johnson will oversee CHS’s fundraising strategy, focusing on expanding donor engagement and securing resources for programs that provide adoption services, family support, and child welfare advocacy.

“I’m thrilled to join CHS and contribute to its impactful work in improving the lives of children and families across North Carolina,” Johnson said in a statement.

CHS has been a cornerstone of child welfare in the state for over a century, serving more than 20,000 individuals annually.

The appointment underscores the organization’s commitment to addressing pressing challenges, including the foster care crisis and the need for permanent, loving homes for vulnerable children.

The new leadership comes at a pivotal time as North Carolina faces rising child welfare needs, including a surge in foster care placements due to the opioid crisis and economic hardships.
