CHR and Talisay City College Forge Partnership for Enhanced Human Rights Education

In a landmark initiative aimed at promoting human rights education, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) and Talisay City College have formalized a partnership to establish a dedicated Human Rights Education Center. The signing ceremony, held on February 25, 2025, marks a significant step in advancing knowledge and awareness of human rights issues among students and the broader community.

The collaboration seeks to create a framework for integrating human rights education into the academic curriculum, thereby fostering a culture of respect for human dignity and social justice. The CHR expressed its commitment to supporting the college in developing training programs, workshops, and resource materials designed to empower students and educators alike.

CHR Commissioner Richard Palpal-latoc highlighted the critical need for educational institutions to play an active role in human rights advocacy. “This partnership is a testament to our shared belief that education is a powerful tool for change,” he stated during the ceremony. “By equipping young minds with a deeper understanding of human rights, we are fostering future leaders who will champion the cause of justice and equality.”

Talisay City College’s President, Dr. Cecilia D. Aglipay, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of cultivating an informed and engaged student body. “Education is not just about acquiring knowledge; it is about instilling values and principles that guide our actions in society,” she remarked.

The collaboration is expected to enhance the college’s capacity to address pressing human rights issues while encouraging students to become active participants in their communities. Additionally, the partnership aims to facilitate research initiatives and community outreach programs that address local human rights concerns.

As the initiative unfolds, stakeholders remain optimistic about the potential impact on human rights awareness in Talisay City and beyond. The establishment of the Human Rights Education Center is envisioned as a cornerstone for fostering a culture of accountability and respect for human rights across various sectors of society.
