An easyJet flight en route to Scotland was forced into an emergency landing on Sunday after a 41-year-old male passenger allegedly shouted that he had a bomb and claimed he wanted to “send a message to Donald Trump.”

The aircraft, travelling from London Luton to Glasgow, was diverted just after 8:00 a.m. as the situation onboard quickly escalated.

Video footage shared by passengers shows the man lying in the aisle, restrained by fellow travellers and flight crew who acted swiftly to prevent panic. According to witnesses, the suspect shouted inflammatory statements, including “Death to America” and referencing former U.S. President Donald Trump, who was staying at the Turnberry golf resort in Ayrshire at the time.

Brave passengers intervened alongside the crew to detain the man until the plane could be safely landed. One clip captured a fellow passenger saying, “Donald Trump is not on this plane, families are,” to which the man reportedly replied, “He is in Scotland.” The flight landed safely at Glasgow Airport around 8:20 a.m., where it was met by officers from Police Scotland and the UK’s Counter Terrorism Command.

Authorities later confirmed that no explosives were found and the incident was contained to a single individual. The man was arrested at the scene and has since been charged.

He is scheduled to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday, 28 July 2025.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland stated: “We were called to a report of a man causing a disturbance on a flight arriving into Glasgow around 8.20 a.m. on Sunday, 27 July.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested and charged. We believe the incident to be contained and that nobody else was involved. Counter terrorism officers are assessing all available video evidence.”

The incident occurred just one day before President Trump was expected to meet Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer at the Turnberry resort. While security is always tight for high-profile visits, this event has drawn renewed attention to passenger screening and onboard vigilance.

EasyJet has praised the quick thinking of its crew and passengers, stating, “The safety and security of all onboard is our top priority, and we are grateful for the calm and coordinated response shown during this incident.”

The situation remains under investigation, with authorities reviewing passenger footage and witness statements to determine motive and potential legal outcomes.
