A man has been arrested following a reported firearm incident in a residential area of Edinburgh. The police responded swiftly to the call, which led to a significant law enforcement presence in the city’s Wester Hailes district.

The incident occurred on Thursday at around 3:40 p.m. in Hailesland Gardens, part of a housing development in Wester Hailes, Edinburgh. According to Police Scotland, officers were alerted to a possible shooting and arrived on the scene alongside specialist firearms officers.

A 23-year-old man was found with serious injuries to his arm. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. Although his injuries were described as severe, they are not believed to be life-threatening, and no other individuals were harmed in the incident.

Police have since arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with the report. Investigations remain ongoing, and the police have not yet disclosed further details regarding the motive or circumstances surrounding the event.

As part of the investigation, a search of the surrounding area was conducted. Officers were seen conducting inquiries and speaking with residents to gather further information.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed that a continued police presence will be maintained in the area to reassure the community and support the ongoing investigation.

“We understand incidents like this can cause concern, and officers will remain in the area to provide reassurance and carry out further enquiries,” the spokesperson stated.

The presence of firearms officers and the scale of the response highlight the seriousness with which law enforcement is treating the matter. The discharge of a firearm in a residential community is a rare but serious offence, and police have encouraged anyone with information to come forward.

Residents in the area are urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting the relevant incident number, or speak directly with officers in the area. Information can also be passed anonymously through Crimestoppers.

This event marks the latest in a series of targeted operations by Police Scotland aimed at reducing violent crime and keeping communities safe. While gun-related incidents remain relatively uncommon in Edinburgh, authorities continue to treat any such reports with utmost priority.
