Family Fights to Free British Couple Jailed in Iran

A British couple’s once-in-a-lifetime motorcycle journey from the United Kingdom to Australia has turned into a prolonged ordeal after they were arrested in Iran earlier this year. Now, their family is leading a determined campaign to bring them home.

Craig and Lindsay Foreman, residents of East Sussex, were detained in Iran in January while travelling through the country as part of their overland trip. The couple had entered Iran from Armenia on December 30, sharing their travels publicly via social media. Iranian authorities later arrested them on charges of espionage, which the couple strongly deny.

Despite heightened tensions in the region, including Israeli military action targeting sites in Tehran in June, the Foremans were not transferred to Evin Prison, Iran’s notorious facility for political prisoners. Instead, they remain in custody at a prison in Kerman Province. This detail was confirmed in a letter from the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Arbitrary Detention and Hostage Affairs to Foreign Secretary David Lammy. The group also noted that in the six months since their arrest, the Foremans have only received three welfare visits, raising serious concerns about their well-being and legal representation.

Back home, their four children have launched a public campaign to push for their release. The effort includes a petition now signed by more than 30,000 supporters and a dedicated campaign website detailing their parents’ original mission. According to the site, Lindsay had long been exploring themes of meaning and human connection, eventually leading to the idea of a bold motorcycle journey to gather personal stories from across continents.

The family’s plea is simple: they want their parents back. In the words of the campaign, “What began as a journey of hope and discovery has turned into a nightmare of injustice.” The campaign continues to grow, drawing attention from supporters, the press, and officials alike, as pressure mounts for diplomatic action to secure their safe return.
