Four young men arrested following a drive-by shooting at a garage in Huddersfield have been released on bail as police continue their investigation into the suspected attempted murder.

The incident occurred shortly after 3 pm on Monday, July 22, outside S Autos on Bulary Road. According to West Yorkshire Police (WYP), shots were fired from a moving vehicle, leaving three men with varying injuries.

A Nissan Juke, believed to have been used in the attack and fitted with false number plates, was seen driving past the garage as the shots rang out. After fleeing the scene, the vehicle was later discovered abandoned outside West Yorkshire and seized by officers.

Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene. A 30-year-old man suffered an injury to his foot, a 36-year-old was struck in the knee, and a 20-year-old received wounds to both his arm and stomach. All three were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Following police enquiries, four males aged 18, 19, 20, and 21 were arrested roughly a week later in the Greater Manchester area. Two were taken in on suspicion of attempted murder, while the other two were arrested on suspicion of firearms offences.

In an update issued by the force on Friday evening, August 1, a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.” The spokesperson also confirmed that the four suspects had now been released on bail.

The shooting, which took place in daylight and in a public area, has sparked concern in the local community. The nature of the attack, involving a car with cloned plates and multiple injured individuals, points to a targeted and pre-planned act of violence.

Police have since increased their presence in the area in an effort to reassure residents and gather additional information. Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses and anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from around the time of the shooting.

Detectives are particularly interested in any sightings of the Nissan Juke before or after the incident. The car’s movements may help identify further suspects or provide crucial context in the ongoing investigation.

This case adds to growing public concern over firearm-related incidents in urban areas. While police forces across the country have made strides in tackling organised criminal activity, such events demonstrate the complex challenges still faced in keeping streets safe.

Public members are urged to come forward if they have any relevant information. Anyone with details is asked to contact West Yorkshire Police via 101, quoting crime reference 13240398747. Alternatively, data can be passed on anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

As the investigation progresses, authorities have asked for continued cooperation from the public, assuring residents that thorough enquiries are underway and that bringing those responsible to justice remains a priority.
