Jet2 Bans Two Passengers After Disruptive Vodka-Fuelled Incident Onboard

Two men have been permanently banned from flying with British carrier Jet2 after being removed from a flight at Leeds Bradford Airport for disorderly conduct following alcohol consumption.

The disruption, which took place on 24 July, resulted in police intervention and the arrest of both individuals on suspicion of affray.

The pair were due to travel on a Jet2 flight from Leeds to Chania International Airport in Greece. According to passenger Ian Boyle, the trouble began after a delay led the men to consume a full bottle of vodka purchased from duty-free. Once onboard, their behaviour reportedly turned aggressive and uncontrollable. Boyle described the scene as a “serious altercation,” adding that one of the men was “so drunk he was uncontrollable” and that the airline staff were “doing their best” but was overwhelmed.

Footage shared online shows multiple West Yorkshire Police officers boarding the aircraft and removing the two men. The police later confirmed the incident, stating they had “received a request for assistance following a report of a disturbance at Leeds Bradford Airport.” Both men were taken into custody and subsequently released on bail.

Jet2 responded swiftly, with a spokesperson confirming that the individuals had been issued lifetime bans from the airline. “As a family-friendly airline, we take a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive passenger behaviour,” the statement read, describing the conduct as “appalling.”

Passengers onboard, including families with young children, were left visibly distressed. Boyle remarked that the experience may deter some children from flying again, reflecting the wider concern about the safety and comfort of passengers during such events.

The incident adds to a growing list of alcohol-related disturbances affecting commercial flights. In a separate case earlier this year, a passenger on a Southwest Airlines flight in the United States was arrested after physically assaulting fellow travellers, including pulling hair and spitting. That individual, a 32-year-old woman from New York, was charged with aggravated assault.

As concerns rise over in-flight conduct and the influence of alcohol, airlines are under increasing pressure to uphold strict behavioural standards. Jet2’s swift response highlights a firm stance against any disruption that endangers passengers or staff.
