A 26-year-old man who was fatally stabbed in southeast London has been identified by police, with two individuals now arrested on suspicion of his murder. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Ayowale Aledejana, from South Norwood, Croydon, died at the scene following an incident on Saturday evening.

Emergency services were called to a residential address on Monson Road, New Cross, at approximately 7.30pm on 2 August, after reports of a man suffering from stab wounds. Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and a team from the London Air Ambulance attended the scene alongside police officers. Despite receiving emergency medical care, Mr Aledejana was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.

According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police, a 26-year-old man was arrested nearby shortly after the incident. He remains in police custody on suspicion of murder. On Sunday, a second arrest was made, this time a 23-year-old woman, who also remains in custody under suspicion of the same offence.

Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is leading the investigation, expressed condolences to the victim’s family. “Our thoughts are with Ayowale’s family and friends at this difficult time,” she said. “I understand this incident will be concerning to the local community and we are conducting a fast-paced and thorough investigation to establish the circumstances of what took place.”

Specialist officers from the Metropolitan Police have been assigned to support Mr Aledejana’s family, as the investigation continues. Police presence in the local area has been increased to reassure residents, and enquiries remain ongoing at the crime scene.

Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to come forward. Officers are particularly interested in any doorbell camera footage or mobile phone videos from the area during the evening hours on Saturday. “I would encourage anyone who has not yet spoken to us to do so as soon as possible,” said DCI Card.

The fatal stabbing adds to ongoing concerns about knife crime in London, where police forces have repeatedly called for greater public cooperation and more robust deterrents. While violent crime overall has shown signs of stabilising, stabbings remain a persistent issue, particularly in certain boroughs.

No charges have yet been filed in the case, and the identities of the arrested individuals have not been made public. Post-mortem results and further forensic evidence are expected to assist police in determining the sequence of events leading to Mr Aledejana’s death.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Metropolitan Police via 101, quoting CAD 6564/02Aug. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be provided through Crimestoppers.
