Manchester United Target New Striker Options

Manchester United are weighing up alternative striker options as competition intensifies for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško, with Newcastle United also attempting to secure the Slovenian international.

Šeško, 21, is regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young forwards. Newcastle have already had a bid rejected by Leipzig, while United have reportedly entered the race with their offer. Unlike the Magpies, United are said to have sufficient funds available and do not need to sell players to complete the deal.

The club has already spent over £120 million this transfer window to bring in Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford and Matheus Cunha from Wolves. However, manager Erik ten Hag is still pushing for a proven centre-forward ahead of the new Premier League season, which begins in less than two weeks.

Sporting director Ruben Amorim is under mounting pressure to improve on last season’s disappointing performance, though signings have been limited. Meanwhile, Ten Hag is banking on pre-season preparations to embed his tactical structure and improve squad cohesion at Carrington.

Despite heavy investment, Manchester United continue to work on reducing the size of the squad. Several fringe players are expected to depart before the transfer deadline, freeing up space and balancing the wage bill.

Should the move for Šeško fall through, Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson is understood to be one of the alternatives under consideration. The 23-year-old Senegal international had an inconsistent but promising first season at Stamford Bridge and is seen as a capable option to lead United’s line.

Further uncertainty surrounds the future of Rasmus Højlund. The Danish striker, who joined United last year, has been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen, according to reports in Germany. Should he depart, the need for reinforcement in the striker position would become even more urgent.

Ten Hag’s recruitment strategy appears to be driven by tactical suitability and familiarity, with the possibility of working again with former players not ruled out. The club remains determined to secure a forward who can deliver consistency, something that was lacking in key moments last season.

With the transfer window closing soon, Manchester United’s next steps will be crucial in shaping their attacking options for the campaign ahead.
