Met Police Call Handler Resigns After Colleague’s Reinstatement

A former 999 call handler has resigned from the Metropolitan Police, accusing the force of failing to uphold its commitment to addressing misconduct. Issy Vine reported a colleague for making offensive comments, including referring to a rape victim as a “slut.” The colleague was initially dismissed for gross misconduct in November 2023 but was reinstated on appeal.

Vine claims that the disciplinary panel’s decision was influenced by the Casey Review, which identified institutional issues within the Met Police. She expressed disappointment that the force’s internal campaigns against toxic behavior were not effectively implemented.

The Metropolitan Police acknowledged that the comments were “entirely unacceptable” but stated that the outcome of the misconduct process had been “subject to a thorough review.” Vine has since filed a lawsuit for constructive dismissal, challenging the force’s actions and seeking accountability.
