Police are continuing a major manhunt for two men suspected of carrying out a targeted acid attack in Plymouth, with no arrests made more than a week after the incident. The assault left a man in his 30s in a serious condition in hospital, and authorities have warned the public to rely only on official updates as the investigation unfolds.

Emergency services were called to a residential property in Plymouth just before 4 a.m. on 21 February following reports of a disturbance. According to Devon and Cornwall Police, two men forced entry into the home before using a corrosive substance to attack the victim.

Detective Superintendent John Bancroft said the suspects, described as black males in their early 20s, are no longer believed to be in Wiltshire, where they were initially thought to be located. “This is a large-scale investigation, and we are working really closely with partner agencies including the National Crime Agency (NCA) to locate the suspects,” he said.

Calling the incident a “brutal and terrifying attack,” Det Supt Bancroft confirmed that the victim remains in a very serious condition, with his family receiving ongoing support from specialist officers. He added that police believe the attack was “isolated and targeted” and linked to organised crime.

Authorities have launched both national and international enquiries to track down those responsible. Det Supt Bancroft cautioned against misinformation spreading online, stating: “We have seen much speculation about the alleged suspects and the circumstances of the incident, which are untrue. The facts of the matter are outlined in this press release, and we urge the public to look to official sources for the facts surrounding this incident.”

The investigation has now expanded beyond the local area, with police appealing to anyone who may have information to come forward. “We would like to thank everyone who has come forward following previous appeals. Our enquiries have taken us further afield, and we can confirm that we no longer believe the suspects to be in Wiltshire,” Bancroft said.

Both suspects are described as black males, each in their early 20s, and police believe they may have connections beyond the immediate region.

Devon and Cornwall Police have urged anyone with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage relevant to the investigation to contact them on 101 or via their website, quoting log 69 of 21 February. Members of the public who wish to remain anonymous can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or call freephone 0800 555 111.

Authorities have reiterated their determination to apprehend the suspects and bring them to justice, stressing that every lead is being pursued as part of the ongoing operation.
