Paul Gallagher Charged with Rape and Assault Following Police Investigation

Paul Gallagher, the older brother of renowned Oasis members Liam and Noel Gallagher, is facing serious criminal charges in the United Kingdom, including rape, intentional strangulation, and coercive control. The charges stem from alleged incidents reported to have occurred over a two-year period, and he is scheduled to make his first court appearance next month.

Gallagher, aged 59 and a resident of East Finchley in North London, has been formally charged following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Service. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised the charges, which also include sexual assault, threats to kill, and assault causing actual bodily harm.

The alleged offences are said to have occurred between 2022 and 2024, although police have not disclosed further details regarding the victim or victims involved. Gallagher is not a public figure like his famous siblings, but his connection to the Oasis stars has drawn notable media attention to the case.

In a statement issued on Monday, July 28, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor Cate Baccas confirmed the prosecution’s position: “We can confirm we have authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge Paul Gallagher with rape and other offences following a police investigation.” The statement did not clarify whether Gallagher has entered any pleas at this stage or if legal representation has been appointed.

The case is set to begin at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 27, where Gallagher is expected to respond to the charges. Under UK law, defendants in such cases typically make an initial appearance at a Magistrates’ Court before proceedings are moved to a Crown Court for trial if the charges are deemed indictable.

Among the charges, intentional strangulation is a relatively new offence introduced in the United Kingdom under the Domestic Abuse Act 2021. It refers specifically to non-fatal strangulation used to instil fear or control within a domestic or intimate context and carries a maximum sentence of five years’ imprisonment.

Gallagher is also facing charges under Section 76 of the Serious Crime Act 2015, which criminalises controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship. This offence highlights the seriousness with which UK authorities are treating psychological and emotional abuse, especially within domestic settings.

The allegations and impending court case come at a time when public concern over violence against women and coercive control remains high. High-profile prosecutions involving domestic abuse have placed growing pressure on both police and the criminal justice system to act decisively in such matters.

While neither Liam nor Noel Gallagher has commented publicly on the charges involving their brother, the case is likely to attract continued media coverage due to their longstanding fame in British pop culture. However, the proceedings will focus solely on Paul Gallagher and the allegations against him.

As of now, neither the Metropolitan Police nor the Crown Prosecution Service has released further information regarding the nature of the evidence or any statements from those involved.

Gallagher remains presumed innocent until proven guilty, and the court process will determine the outcome based on the evidence presented. The public and media are advised to allow due legal process to take its course without speculative commentary.
