Police Impose Protest Ban Outside Hotel Amid Ongoing Migration Tensions

Police have introduced a 28-day ban on public protests outside the Britannia Hotel, following repeated demonstrations related to mass migration. The move comes amid ongoing unrest linked to the use of hotels for housing large numbers of migrants, with officers citing the need to maintain order and limit disruption to local communities.

Officers on the ground informed those present that any gathering in the immediate vicinity would now be considered unlawful. In a recorded exchange, one officer told protesters, “You are causing harassment, alarm and distress to members of the public. You are now required to leave the area.”

The decision follows similar incidents at other locations where migrants have been placed, including previous confrontations at The Bell Hotel in Epping and the Britannia International Hotel in Canary Wharf. These sites have seen repeated demonstrations and counter-protests, placing increasing pressure on local police forces to contain tensions.

The Britannia Hotel is being used as temporary accommodation for migrants under existing Home Office arrangements. Public concern has been growing in affected areas, with residents voicing frustration over rising arrivals and the lack of community input in decisions involving local facilities.

The temporary ban, enforced under powers available to police for controlling public disorder, prevents any further protests directly outside the hotel for a period of 28 days. Officers have confirmed that breaches of the order will result in dispersal and potential arrest.

Police state that the measure is intended to prevent further conflict and minimise strain on emergency services. They added that the restriction is specific to the hotel location and does not apply to other parts of the area.

No arrests were made during the enforcement, but a continued police presence is expected for the duration of the order.

The use of hotels for migrant housing remains a contentious issue, particularly in communities where services are already under pressure. This latest ban reflects a broader clampdown on unrest as authorities seek to maintain control in increasingly strained areas.

The situation remains under review as enforcement continues.
