Recent Offenders Sentenced at Southampton Magistrates’ Court

A number of offenders have recently appeared before Southampton Magistrates’ Court, with cases ranging from theft and assault to knife possession and motoring offences. The court imposed a range of penalties including fines, community orders, suspended sentences, and remands in custody.

Calvin Kelly, 44, of Lodge Road in Southampton, admitted to two incidents of making off without paying for fuel from local petrol stations. He was fined £40 for each offence and ordered to pay £76 in compensation to cover the losses.

Robert Luffman, 31, from Pittmore Close in Eastleigh, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis on October 2, 2024. The court imposed a community order requiring him to complete 170 hours of unpaid work. He was also told to pay a £114 victim services surcharge. Luffman further admitted to two counts of failing to answer bail, but no separate penalties were issued.

Court Sentencings

Leon Rennie, aged 25, of Gazelle Close, Gosport, admitted to stalking, criminal damage, obstructing a police constable, and assault by beating. Given the seriousness of the charges, he was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on August 12, 2025.

Melissa Rutkowska, 26, of Wainwright Gardens in Hedge End, pleaded guilty to breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order twice. She was granted conditional bail and will return to court for sentencing on August 15, 2025.

Joao Ramalho, 38, of St Matthews Close in Southampton, was handed a six-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months after admitting to possessing a knife in public on August 10, 2024. He also pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation after using someone else’s bank card, for which he was fined £200. A further theft offence, involving the shoplifting of five tubs of butter worth £21 from a Co-op store, resulted in no additional penalty.

Michael Wheatley, 51, from Providence Hill in Bursledon, admitted to an assault by beating committed on January 27, 2025, in Hedge End. He received a community order that included 100 hours of unpaid work, and he must also pay £85 in court costs and a £114 victim surcharge.

Mark Briggs, 51, with no fixed address, was charged with stealing Nike trainers worth £135 from Foot Asylum in Southampton on February 27, 2025. He also admitted stealing a coffee machine from John Lewis. Briggs was granted unconditional bail and is due in court on October 1, 2025.

Finally, Ilham Ayubi, 36, of International Way in Southampton, was found guilty of driving without due care and attention on St Denys Road on November 23, 2023. The court fined her £200 and £250 in costs and an £80 victim surcharge. Her licence was endorsed with five penalty points.

All sentences were handed down at Southampton Magistrates’ Court, reflecting the varying seriousness of offences dealt with at the local level.
