Roz Savage MP Unveils Site for Local Community Action

Roz Savage, Member of Parliament (MP) for South Cotswolds, has launched a dedicated website designed to showcase and support the region’s most effective grassroots projects. The Stronger South Cotswolds platform aims to strengthen local communities by celebrating practical solutions led by residents themselves, rather than relying on slow-moving government intervention.

After attending the Groundswell conference alongside the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Farming, Savage was struck by a common theme: local areas need to become more resilient and self-sufficient to withstand the economic and social challenges that lie ahead. The event, which brought together farmers, food producers, and civic leaders, emphasised the importance of communities taking ownership of their future. In many respects, this approach counters the prevailing mindset in Westminster, where politicians too often promise grand schemes but fail to deliver meaningful action on the ground.

The Stronger South Cotswolds website highlights a variety of community-driven efforts that put common sense and resourcefulness ahead of bureaucracy. For example, The Cirencester Pantry is tackling food waste by redistributing surplus groceries to local families in need, proving that local volunteers can often achieve more than a Whitehall directive ever could. Similarly, Thames Head Energy, a renewable energy initiative owned and managed by residents, demonstrates how communities can take charge of their energy security without waiting for endless debates in Parliament.

Organisations like The Churn Project and Working 4 Wellbeing are also featured, reflecting a commitment to ensuring vulnerable individuals are not left behind. These groups provide mental health services, combat loneliness, and offer practical support during times of hardship. Unlike many large-scale programs that come with bloated budgets and limited results, these initiatives succeed because they are led by people who genuinely care about their neighbours.

Savage’s message is clear: while she will continue to press for better funding and legislation in Westminster, she believes communities must not sit idle expecting the current government to fix every problem. “We don’t need to wait for help that may never arrive,” she said. “We can start building a better future right now, using the resources and goodwill we already have.”

This philosophy resonates with many across the South Cotswolds who are weary of empty promises from the Labour Party and other politicians who favour headline-grabbing pledges over practical outcomes. By promoting Stronger South Cotswolds, Savage is backing a model of self-reliance and civic pride that puts local people firmly in control of their destiny.

In an era when political grandstanding often eclipses real results, this initiative offers a refreshing reminder that lasting change starts closest to home.
