Teen Fatally Shot at Collegeville Housing Community in Birmingham

A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed late Thursday night at the Collegeville housing community in Birmingham, Alabama. Birmingham Police Department responded to reports of gunfire around 11:30 p.m. on 29th Avenue North, where the teenager was found deceased at the scene.

According to Public Information Officer Truman Fitzgerald, the investigation is still in its early stages, but preliminary evidence suggests multiple rounds were fired. “We believe numerous shots were fired outside of the apartment into a nearby vehicle and into the apartment the victim was discovered in,” Fitzgerald said.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the teen was shot inside the apartment or if he was struck outside and managed to enter before collapsing. The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Birmingham Police are actively working to identify and locate the shooter. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no arrests have been made as of Friday morning.
