Tension is rising in Agege, Lagos State, as All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship aspirant Sola Osolana has publicly confronted the outgoing Local Government Chairman, Ganiyu Egunjobi, over accusations regarding his prolonged stay in the United Kingdom. Osolana has raised concerns about Egunjobi’s commitment to the local community, questioning his ability to effectively lead while being abroad for extended periods. This dispute is further fueling the charged political atmosphere ahead of the upcoming July 12 local government elections.

The political landscape in Agege has been turbulent, with various controversies surrounding the APC’s internal dynamics. Earlier this year, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, was accused of trying to impose his son, Abdulganiyu Obasa, as the APC chairmanship candidate in Agege. The move sparked protests and public discontent, with many local stakeholders urging President Bola Tinubu to intervene. Abdulganiyu eventually withdrew from the race, which opened the door for other aspirants like Osolana to enter the fray.
