Thales Defense & Security Names Steve Kutchi VP of Engineering and CTO to Lead Technological Innovation

Thales Defense & Security, Inc. aims to boost its tech leadership with a strategic move. (TDSI) has appointed Steve Kutchi as Vice President of Engineering and Chief Technology Officer (CTO). On 2 January 2025, TDSI announced a promotion. It tasks Kutchi with overseeing its technology strategy, product design, and engineering.

With a tenure at Thales spanning over two decades, Kutchi’s journey with the company began in 2004. His progression through various leadership roles underscores his deep-seated expertise and commitment.

Before this promotion, he was the Director of Hardware and Support Engineering for almost five years. He led the design and development of high-reliability communications electronics. These included satellite communication terminals and software-defined radios, among other critical devices.

In his new role, Kutchi will lead multiple disciplines. They include: systems engineering; RF and analog hardware; digital hardware; embedded software; DSP; optics; and mechanical engineering.

Kutchi will also oversee engineering labs, production support, model shops, logistics, and config management. He will ensure seamless operations and drive innovative engineering solutions.

Before joining Thales, Kutchi honed his expertise at Hughes Network Systems from 1997 to 2004 as a senior member of the technical staff. He led mechanical engineering for satellite VSAT and wireless terminal products. This laid a solid foundation for his later work at Thales.
