Three Arrested Over Fatal Stabbing of Teenager in Bury Town Centre Car Park

Three 19-year-old men have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the fatal stabbing of a teenager in Bury, Greater Manchester. The victim, also 19, was attacked in a car park on Market Street shortly before 9pm on Friday and later died from multiple stab wounds. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed all three suspects are currently in custody.

One of the suspects was detained at Manchester Airport in the early hours of Sunday morning at approximately 4:30am. The other two were apprehended on Saturday evening, one in Bury and another in nearby Bolton. The arrests were made as part of a swift response by GMP’s Major Incident Team, which is now leading the investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton, who is heading the inquiry, described the killing as a “violent and tragic incident” that was witnessed by several members of the public. He noted that, despite the arrests, the investigation remains active and ongoing.

“Even though we have three people in custody, this is still a live investigation and that will continue today and into next week,” said DCI Charlton. “This incident will have shocked the community and distressed anyone who witnessed it, but we believe this was a targeted attack with no wider threat.”

Uniformed officers and detectives will maintain a visible presence in the area over the coming days as police continue to gather evidence and speak with potential witnesses. Specialist support officers have also been assigned to the victim’s family, who are said to be devastated by the loss.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident, particularly those who were in the area at the time or may have relevant footage, to come forward. DCI Charlton encouraged members of the public to reference log number 3354-01/08/25 when providing information.

The fatal stabbing has reignited concerns about knife crime among young people in the Greater Manchester region. While overall violent crime levels have stabilised in recent years, incidents involving bladed weapons continue to pose a serious challenge to public safety and law enforcement resources.

Local residents have expressed shock and sorrow following the incident, with several floral tributes left near the site of the attack. Community leaders have called for calm and urged anyone with knowledge of the incident to assist the investigation.

At the time of writing, the victim’s name has not been formally released. Post-mortem examination results are expected in the coming days, which may assist in further clarifying the circumstances surrounding the killing.
