Trump Applauds UK’s Efforts to Curb Illegal Immigration

During a private visit to Scotland, former US President Donald Trump praised the United Kingdom for taking strong measures to reduce illegal immigration across the English Channel. Speaking from the Turnberry golf resort, Trump expressed approval for the UK’s attempts to stop small boat crossings, which have become a growing concern in recent years.

While acknowledging that he was unfamiliar with the specific details of the Channel crossings, Trump made clear his support for efforts to reduce the influx of illegal migrants.

“If you’re stopping immigration and stopping the wrong people… my hats are off to you,” he said. “You’re doing, not a good thing, you’re doing a fantastic thing.”

The former President’s comments came during a meeting with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Lady Starmer, who were welcomed to Turnberry by the sound of bagpipes.

When briefed on the issue of small boat crossings, Trump responded with characteristic candour: “If the boats are loaded up with bad people, and they usually are… other countries don’t send their best, they send people they don’t want.”

The remarks reflect Trump’s longstanding belief that immigration policies must be firm to safeguard national security and preserve cultural identity. He warned that without stronger border controls, Europe risks losing its heritage: “Europe is a much different place than it was five or ten years ago. If they don’t get their act together, you’re not going to have Europe anymore.”

According to the Home Office, 122 individuals made the dangerous Channel crossing in small boats on Saturday, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by British authorities.

The meeting between Trump and Keir was part of the former President’s five-day private trip to Scotland. In addition to immigration, topics expected to be discussed included trade relations and foreign policy issues such as the situation in Gaza.

Trump also took a light-hearted approach when asked about tariffs on Scotch whisky, stating: “I didn’t know whisky was a problem. I’m not a big whisky drinker but maybe I should be.” On the broader UK-US relationship, he added confidently: “Our relationship is unparalleled.”

As migration remains a major topic across Europe, Trump’s comments signal continued alignment between conservative principles in both the US and the UK on the importance of strong borders and national integrity.
