A man riding a motorbike and a pedestrian have died following a serious collision on the A6 Preston Road in Clayton-le-Woods, Lancashire, which also left a woman in hospital and led to three arrests.

Lancashire Police confirmed that officers were called shortly before 10:30 pm on Thursday after reports that a BMW motorbike had struck two pedestrians. The rider, a man in his 50s from Macclesfield in Cheshire, and a male pedestrian in his 60s from Clayton-le-Woods, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The second pedestrian, a woman in her 60s, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Police said she remains in a serious but stable condition.

Investigation Continues

Three men were arrested on Friday in connection with the incident as part of the ongoing investigation. The suspects include a 53-year-old from Whittle-le-Woods in Lancashire, a 57-year-old from Middlewich in Cheshire, and a 46-year-old from Congleton, also in Cheshire. All were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

The three men have since been released under investigation while further inquiries are carried out.

Detective Sergeant Joe Ghigi of Lancashire Police said: “This collision has very sadly resulted in the death of two men, and inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances that led to the collision. Our thoughts are with the woman receiving treatment and the loved ones of both men who died. They are being supported by specially trained officers at this incredibly distressing time. Although we have now made three arrests, our inquiries are very much ongoing.”

Police are urging anyone who may have seen what happened or has relevant dashcam footage to come forward. In particular, they are looking for footage from between 10:15 pm and 10:45 pm on Thursday from the M6 motorway between junctions 31 and 29, and the A6 in the Cloverfield area.

Witnesses or those with information can contact Lancashire Police on the non-emergency number 101 or by emailing the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at SCIU@lancashire.police.uk, quoting log 1510 of August 7, 2025.

The road was closed for several hours while accident investigators examined the scene, and officers continued to piece together the events leading up to the crash.
