Two Dead, One Detained After London Business Premises Stabbing

Two men have died and another remains detained following a violent stabbing incident at a business premises in central London. The attack occurred on Monday afternoon, July 28, 2025, around 1:00 p.m. British Summer Time (BST), in the Long Lane area of Southwark, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Emergency services responded to reports of multiple stabbings inside a commercial building, where they found four individuals with knife wounds. A 58-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Three others were transported to hospital, including a 27-year-old man who later succumbed to his injuries.

Of the remaining two individuals, one man in his thirties continues to receive treatment for injuries described as non-life-threatening. Another man, also in his thirties, has been detained in connection with the attack. He remains in hospital in critical condition, and police are treating him as a suspect while awaiting further medical updates.

Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond stated, “Our investigation is in the early stages and we are working hard to understand the full circumstances of this shocking incident. At this point, we do not believe it to be terrorism-related and there is no further risk to the public.”

The scene has since been secured, and police forensic teams continue to investigate the premises. While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, early indications suggest the incident was isolated and involved individuals known to one another.

Local reactions have included shock and concern. One nearby resident, who asked not to be named, said, “You don’t expect this in an area like this. The apartments around here are really expensive—it’s not something you expect to happen just down the street.”

In response to the incident, Natasha Ennin, Southwark Council’s cabinet member for community safety and neighbourhoods, said: “I’m horrified and deeply saddened by the deaths of two men in our borough today. My heartfelt condolences go to their families and friends.”

The event has prompted local discussions about violent crime, including knife crime, though its isolated nature limits conclusions about broader trends or the impact of safety investments. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation as investigations continue.
