UK and 27 Nations Accuse Israel of ‘Inhumane’ Civilian Killings in Gaza Aid Crisis

A coalition of 28 countries, led by the United Kingdom, has issued a forceful call for an immediate end to the war in Gaza. Their joint statement denounced Israel’s “drip-feeding” of humanitarian aid and the “inhumane killing of civilians” seeking necessities like food and water. The signatories, including Canada, Australia, France, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, and Switzerland, warned that Gaza’s civilian suffering has “reached new depths” and that Israel’s aid delivery model is exacerbating instability and stripping Palestinians of human dignity. According to Gaza’s Hamas-run Health Ministry, over 100 Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire while waiting for food over the weekend, and 19 succumbed to malnutrition. Since the revamped aid system run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) began eight weeks ago, the UN’s human rights office has recorded 674 aid-related deaths, with hundreds more reported this past week alone. 

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy described the situation in the House of Commons as a “litany of horrors,” telling MPs that children were being struck down in their desperation for food. He announced an additional £40 million in humanitarian aid while insisting that support for Israel’s security should not equate to turning a blind eye to civilian tragedy. “The government’s actions are doing untold damage to Israel’s standing in the world and undermining Israel’s long‑term security,” he said. 

In response, Israel’s Foreign Ministry called the joint statement “disconnected from reality,” accusing Hamas of misusing assistance and blaming the terror group for obstructing the flow of aid, rather than acknowledging the surge in civilian casualties.

This declaration marks one of the most candid condemnations by allied countries of Israel’s tactics during the 21-month conflict, reflecting deep international alarm. The nations also expressed growing support for a ceasefire and hinted at broader steps such as possible recognition of a Palestinian state to pressure for a political resolution. 

International agencies are sounding the alarm. The UN and World Food Programme warn that Gaza’s hunger crisis has reached catastrophic levels, with hospitals unable to feed patients or staff and baby formula entirely out of supply. The World Health Organisation has confirmed that its facilities have been struck and staff detained. Gaza’s health experts warn of looming “mass deaths” if urgent aid does not arrive. This joint call combining moral condemnation with threats of further diplomatic measures marks a pivotal moment in the international community’s response. With civilian suffering mounting and diplomatic pressure intensifying, the spotlight is now on Israel’s next move: will it adjust course toward greater humanitarian access or double down on its military strategy?
