UK’s Tough Immigration Laws Leave Care Homes Facing Staffing Crisis

The UK government has announced a sweeping overhaul of immigration policies that will severely impact the social care sector. Under new rules, care homes will no longer be able to recruit new workers from abroad. Instead, providers will have to focus on hiring from the existing pool of foreign workers already residing in the UK or extend visas for current employees. This move is part of a broader strategy aimed at reducing net migration and addressing concerns over the exploitation of overseas labor, with a particular focus on high-demand sectors like healthcare.

The policy shift has raised alarms within the care sector, which has become increasingly reliant on migrant workers to fill staffing gaps.
