West Yorkshire: Performance Health Boosts UK Manufacturing

A leading provider of rehabilitation and mobility equipment has revitalised a dormant manufacturing site in Bingley, West Yorkshire, reinforcing its commitment to British industry and regional jobs.

Performance Health has officially taken over the former Swanglen Metal facility, rebranding it as Performance Health Bingley. The acquisition includes the full lease of the site and all essential manufacturing equipment, such as steel fabrication and powder-coating machinery. Several skilled former staff members have also been rehired, ensuring local knowledge and expertise remain at the heart of operations.

This move marks a notable investment in UK manufacturing at a time when domestic production has faced mounting pressure from overseas markets and policy uncertainty. Performance Health’s decision to expand its local capabilities stands in contrast to many firms shifting operations abroad.

“It is great to see our company investing and committing to growing its manufacturing footprint in the UK, employing local people and supporting local businesses throughout West Yorkshire. We’re proud to see the site come back to life under the Performance Health banner.”

The facility will begin production with 23 products from the firm’s Homecraft range, including shower chairs, Atlantic commode chairs, corner stools, and bedrails, vital equipment for hospitals, care homes, and patients managing independent living.

Tom Atkinson, Managing Director of Performance Health UK, described the reopening as a “pivotal moment” for the business.

“Performance Health Bingley represents our commitment to building a more agile, responsive, and locally driven operation that better serves our customers. It’s also a meaningful investment in the UK economy, supporting regional manufacturing, job creation, and greater supply chain resilience.”

This strategic expansion reflects a growing recognition among private firms that relying too heavily on overseas production leaves supply chains vulnerable. By investing locally, Performance Health positions itself to respond more swiftly to customer needs while contributing positively to Britain’s manufacturing base.

As regions like West Yorkshire look to rebuild from years of industrial decline, initiatives led by businesses, not government handouts, are proving to be the more dependable drivers of long-term growth and opportunity.
