Israeli Rights Group Accuses Israel of Using Starvation as a War Tactic

A prominent Israeli human rights organization has accused the Israeli government of employing starvation as a method of warfare in the Gaza Strip, labeling it a war crime under international law. The group, B’Tselem, contends that Israel’s prolonged blockade and deliberate obstruction of humanitarian aid have led to widespread food insecurity, particularly affecting Gaza’s civilian population.

According to the B’Tselem report, Israel’s actions include restricting the entry of essential food supplies, destroying agricultural infrastructure, and limiting access to clean water and electricity. These measures have resulted in dire humanitarian conditions, with many Gazans facing severe malnutrition and displacement. The organization argues that such tactics are not only unlawful but also constitute collective punishment against civilians, violating the Geneva Conventions.

The Israeli government has defended its actions, stating that the blockade is a necessary security measure in response to threats from militant groups operating within Gaza. However, international bodies, including the United Nations, have expressed concern over the humanitarian impact of the blockade, urging Israel to lift restrictions and allow unfettered access for aid organizations. The debate continues to raise critical questions about the balance between security concerns and the protection of civilian rights in conflict zones.
